Meet The Maltby Academy Governors

Alex Steadman
Chair of Governors
Mr Steadman is currently the Head Teacher of Carlton Primary Academy in Barnsley. He has a genuine drive to improve the life chances of students within our community. He is excited at becoming a Governor at Maltby Academy.
He went to Wath Comprehensive, now Wath Academy, and Wath Sixth Form where he enjoyed the wealth of opportunities that they gave him. He has a passion for travelling and sport and loves spending time with his family.

Sharon Greensill
Vice Chair of Governors
Mrs Greensill is a Community Governor and has lived in Maltby for 20 years. She has two daughters who have both attended Maltby Academy. Mrs Greensill works as Professional Head of Physiotherapy within a local NHS trust. Mrs Greensill's role involves ensuring that practice and care delivery is safe, efficient and meets professional standards.
Mrs Greensill currently sit on the National Council for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy which is the elected governing body for the profession. The council agrees policy, supports in the development and promotion of the core vision, ensures the voice of the membership at strategic level and oversees the governance and strategic direction of the profession.
Mrs Greensill is a keen interest in education and is a visiting lecturer at Huddersfield University teaching on their undergraduate programme.
Mrs Greensill has seen significant changes within education in Maltby both aesthetically, culturally and in the standard of learning delivered. The Academy has gone from a place where young people are taught to an environment where they are inspired, supported and prepared to achieve the best of their ability and to have the confidence to aspire to achieve. Mrs Greensill feels that the learning experiences that young people receive are key to their future regardless of whether their pathway is vocational or academic.

Danielle Curtis
Staff Teacher Governor
Miss Curtis is currently the Subject Specialist for Psychology and Sociology. She loves teaching her subjects and becoming a Governor will allow her to fulfil the goal of developing and supporting students' progression. Miss Curtis is a keen Sociologist and wishes to part of social change and use the role to make a difference. Miss Curtis' vision is to enthuse and inspire the next generation, who not only use their knowledge, skills and experiences to improve themselves, but others. Miss Curtis' interests include a love for all things fantasy, country music, eating amazing food, walking her dog and playing sports, in which she relishes for healthy competition.

Stephen Hattersley
Appointed Governor
Mr Hattersley was initially appointed as a parent Governor for Maltby Academy. He has previously been an Instructor with the Army Cadets, a Union Representative in a Supermarket and a Training Assistant for a Call Centre.
Mr Hattersley is hoping to bring some of the skills gained in his previous roles to his Governor role. He is also looking forward to learning new skills.

Andy Hopkin
Appointed Governor
Mr Hopkin is currently on the Senior Leadership team at Wath Academy, one of the three Maltby Learning Trust’s secondary Academies. His current role is Vice principal with responsibility for Teaching and learning, Behaviour, Attendance, and Inclusion.
Mr Hopkin lives local to Maltby Academy and knows the area well. He feels privileged to have the opportunity to be a Governor at the Academy and is really looking forward to helping Maltby Academy build further on their excellent school improvement work.

Nicola Kirkham MBE
Staff Associate Professional Governor
Mrs Kirkham has many years' experience in a pastoral capacity in education in the roles of Assistant Head of House and Student Welfare Manager, along with being a qualified Health and Social Care Teacher. She has served in South Yorkshire Police as a SYP Special Constable and was awarded an MBE in 2008 for Services to The Police and Community.
Mrs Kirkham has established both nationally and internationally recognised youth activities and is currently establishing a new LGBTQ+ group at Maltby Academy and hopes to expand this further to support the local community.
Mrs Kirkham has lots of experience, drive and creativity and sees the role of a Governor as being able to extend her current key skills and leadership qualities by further understanding the role of a Staff Governor within Maltby Academy and the Trust. -
Rebecca Moore
Appointed Governor
Mrs Moore is currently on the Senior Leadership team at Maltby Lilly Hall Academy, one of the four Maltby Learning Trust primary Academies.Mrs Moore has worked at Maltby Lilly Hall Academy for seven years, starting as a newly qualified teacher. Mrs Moore's current role is Acting Assistant Principal, with specific responsibilities for English, PE, Pupil Premium and Enrichment. Having taught Year 6 for six years, Mrs Moore has a good understanding of the transition from primary to secondary school and is passionate about ensuring all children have a smooth transition, so they can continue to thrive and succeed in the secondary setting. Mrs Moore hopes to bring her knowledge of primary education, enthusiasm and drive to her new role as Maltby Academy Governor. She is eager to learn and develop her understanding of the role which in turn will positively impact on her as a leader within Maltby Learning Trust.

Adam Tinsley
Appointed Governor
Mr Tinsley is a former student of Maltby Comprehensive School, leaving back in 2004. After leaving Maltby Comprehensive, Mr Tinsley undertook an apprenticeship in plastering at Rotherham College before gaining employment at Sheffield University, where he has worked in facilities since 2007. Interested in running his own business, Adam set up an entertainment company hiring out Formula One Cars and Simulators to blue-chip companies around the world.
Mr Tinsley has undertaken voluntary work including being a Race Marshal in Silverstone and being a community first responder at the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, responding to 999 calls locally.
Wanting to see improvements locally in 2020, Mr Tinsley was co-opted onto Maltby Town Council and in 2021 was elected as a Rotherham Borough Councillor for Maltby East, where he continues to push for improvements to Maltby and for Maltby residents. -
Jonathan Hart
Business/Education Governor
Mr Hart has been involved in education for over twenty years, working at a range of secondary schools in South Yorkshire as a teacher. He currently works at Wath Academy, delivering a range of subjects across all Key Stages. He believes he can use his wider experience to help contribute to the continued success of Maltby Academy.

Charlotte Cooper
Parent Governor
Miss Cooper works for a MAT leading personal development and enrichment. As a teacher, Miss Cooper has a good understanding of the demands of education and will be a good critical friend of the Academy. She is keen to ensure the Academy meets the needs of Maltby community, raising aspirations and ensuring young people flourish in education. As a parent, Miss Cooper understands the range of challenges children face and the support they need to make the right choices. Miss Cooper appreciates the importance of nurture and understanding around mental health, ensuring Academies take this into consideration when managing behaviour. Miss Cooper feels that Maltby Academy is a hub for the community and is central to the success of its young people.

Marc Clements
Parent Governor
Mr Clements has lived in Maltby since 2005 and has a child in Year 10, about to complete their GCSEs in 2025, and a child embarking on their transition to Year 7. He feels this is the perfect opportunity to contribute to the continuing success of Maltby Academy.
After completing a degree in Music Technology, he was a store manager for a large well-known entertainment retailer for 15 years, spending most of that time in Rotherham.
He has a wide variety of experience within education, having completed his PGCE in Mathematics across several schools in South Yorkshire (including a period at Maltby Academy). He worked for The Sheffield College for 4 years, eventually leading the examinations team.
Since 2016, he has worked at a large secondary school in Doncaster, recently rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and about to undergo a significant rebuild programme. As Data, Exams and Systems Manager, he leads a team of cover supervisors, exam invigilators, a Data Officer and an Exams Officer. He works very closely with all aspects of school life, such as SLT, attendance, SEN, curriculum leaders and site team.
He has also been the Associate Staff Governor for 3 years at his current school before Maltby as a Parent Governor. He has a commitment to continuous improvement and a genuine desire for students to achieve as much success as they possibly can.

Richard Wood
Principal
Appointed to the MLT in 2019 as Principal of Maltby Academy, Mr Wood has extensive experience as a Senior Leader and has worked in a number of Secondary settings across North, West and South Yorkshire. Mr Wood is also a qualified OFSTED inspector. During his 12 years at King James’s School in Knaresborough, he secured ‘Good’ Ofsted judgements including ‘Outstanding’ for behaviour. He was seconded to Settle College, North Yorkshire to support the reorganisation of South Craven schools. As Principal at Mexborough Academy in 2015, he secured significant improvements in outcomes, behaviour and culture.

Adrian Brown
Appointed Governor
Mr Brown has worked in the education sector for over 20 years and is currently a Senior Manager for an Awarding Organisation that delivers qualifications to schools across the world, with responsibilities for operational delivery, human resource management, planning and finance.
Mr Brown is a passionate believer that education has the power to transform young people’s lives and create social mobility and opportunity. Mr Brown lives locally and is excited to have the opportunity to bring his skills and experience in the commercial world to Maltby Academy.
