Admission Arrangements

Year 6-7 transition from Primary to Secondary School

Our published Admission Number (PAN) is 200

The Local Authority co-ordinates admissions to School on behalf of Maltby Learning Trust which is the admissions authority for this school.  Applications for a place at the school should be made via the Local Authority School Admissions Team:  www.rotherham.gov.uk/schools or telephone 01709 823777.

All parents/carers have a right to express a preference for any school for their child. The Local Authority enables parents/carers to apply for up to three schools. Information about each school is given in the school’s prospectus annually, which are available directly from each school. Alternatively, information can be gained from individual school websites.

Parents/carers will receive a booklet setting out the Local Authority’s procedures for admissions of children to secondary schools in July (as their child leaves Year 5 for the summer holidays and will be returning to school as a Year 6 pupil) in Primary School. This booklet explains the procedure for expressing a preference(s). The relevant forms can be found in this booklet. You can also apply online through the Rotherham Council website.

Any application received after the closing date will be considered as a late application and you will be far less likely to obtain a place at your preferred school.

Where there are more applications than places available at the school, the published oversubscription criteria outlined in the Academy Admissions Arrangements and the Local Authority’s Admission to Secondary School booklet: https://www.rotherham.gov.uk/schools-schooling/starting-secondary-school will be applied.

If a place cannot be offered, the child(ren) not offered a place will be added to a waiting list, which is maintained by the Local Authority

In-Year Applications

An application can be made for a place for a child at any time outside the normal admission round and the child will be admitted where there are available places. The Local Authority will coordinate all in-year transfers on behalf of own admission authority schools in Rotherham.

Parents should complete a common application form (Transfers) which can be completed online on the Rotherham Authority website: Apply for a school place – Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council  or a paper copy can be obtained by contacting the School Admissions Team on: 01709 823777.

You will be advised of the outcome of your application in writing, and you have the right of appeal to an independent appeal panel.

The current Admission limits for years 8 – 11 are:

Year Group Admission Limit
Year 8 200
Year 9 200
Year 10 200
Year 11 200

Moving on to secondary school is an important and exciting step in the life of any child. The local authority booklet below provides an explanation of the procedures for you to follow at this important time. It shows how you as parent(s) or carer(s) can be involved in ensuring that your child has a successful transfer to secondary school.

The booklet summarises the Local Authority and schools policies for the allocation of secondary school places. It also refers to some of the other policies which may affect your child either immediately or at some during their secondary education.

Consultation - Proposed Maltby Learning Trust Admission Arrangements 2026/2027

Open from Monday 16th December 2024 until Monday 27th January 2025.

INTRODUCTION

In accordance with the DfE’s 2021 statutory ‘School Admissions Code’ guidance, as the Admissions Authority, the Trust must consult on its Academies' admission arrangements when changes are proposed, and at least once every seven years. For this reason, a consultation is currently being held to meet the Trusts statutory duty.

Maltby Learning Trust is committed to providing an excellent education for all children and young people within our community. As part of this commitment, we are conducting an open consultation on our proposed admission arrangements for the academic year 2026/27. This consultation gives parents, carers, staff, and the wider community the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed arrangements before they are finalised.

This consultation applies to the following Academies within Maltby Learning Trust:

The consultation is broken down into two areas

Removal of the following over-subscription criteria for all the Academies listed above:

  • Children who, on 15thJanuary 2026 (Primary Academies) or 31st October 2025 (Secondary Academies), have a specific medical reason, confirmed by a medical practitioner, which the Admission and Local Authority are satisfied makes attendance at this school essential. Parents should ensure that they provide full supporting information to be considered along with their application.
  • Children who, on 15th January 2026 (Primary Academies) or 31st October 2025 (Secondary Academies), have a compelling social reason which the Admission and Local Authority are satisfied makes attendance at this school essential. The kind of overriding social reasons which could be accepted are where there is evidence that the child’s education would be seriously impaired if he or she did not attend the preferred school. Parents should ensure that they provide full supporting information to be considered along with their application.

A change in the Published Admission Number (PAN) for Maltby Manor Academy, from September 2026:

  • Reduce the PAN from 60 to 45.
